George Russell grudgingly admits he was ‘nowhere in comparison to Lewis Hamilton’ at the Miami GP

With the dust around the event now being settled, Russell has admitted that he proved second-best against his teammate in Miami.

I don’t think it caught us off guard. I just had no pace at all. It was just a lot worse than expected. My race pace has been pretty strong this year but compared to Lewis I was nowhere. We need to check and see what happened, and go from there. George Russell said in an interview with Silverarrows.net

The 26-year-old has made it known that on his side of things, his race pace was just not good enough in comparison to the W15 of the seven-time world champion. Russell deems this area as something that he and his crew will look into ahead of round seven of the 2024 season.

George Russell feels his Miami GP outing was downright ‘rubbish’

While George Russell has acknowledged the might that his teammate showed around the Miami Street Circuit, he also feels that he had a lot of bad luck riding on his side during the weekend. He is especially disappointed with the start of the Miami GP.

Red Bull’s Sergio Perez braked late going into Turn 1 and this caught Russell a bit off guard.

It was a pretty rubbish race from start to finish, in all honesty. I had a good start but when Checo [Perez] sent it down the inside, when he rejoined everybody had to check up a bit and it cost me three positions. George Russell in an interview with F1

With Miami out of the way, next up on the calendar is the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. The event will take place around the famous Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari circuit and considering the characteristics of the Mercedes W15, it could prove to be a difficult event for Russell and Hamilton. The W15’s straight-line speed this year has not been the best in comparison to the lights of Ferrari and McLaren.
